The original rockets with the elusive chocolate wafer cookie |
G.G. gave Anna Clare the cutest cookbook last year. Each time G.G. comes they choose a recipe for their baking project. They made Steve the cutest Father's Day cake in June in the shape of a necktie when she was here.
AC was flipping through the book this week and spotted these rocket cakes in a cone. Since her class is studying space she asked if I would make them for the class. After checking out the recipe and deciding instantly it was fool proof, I told her "Yes, of course!"
Houston, we have a problem. |
The recipe called for chocolate wafer cookies to slide into the bottom of the cone. I went to 3 groceries stores (Walmart, Winn Dixie, and Publix TWICE) in search of these babies. Cookie aisles, ice cream toppings sections, etc...these cookies could not be found. So I bought ginger thins instead. Remember in Pretty Woman when Julia Roberts walks back into the snobby boutique and says, "Big Mistake. Big. Huge."? That kept playing in my head. The ginger thins broke very easily AND they softened over night so that most of the rockets were snoozing when I got up this morning.
Then when I tried to fix them, the sweetarts and gummies starting falling off. Frustration did not begin to describe me at 6:30 this morning. But, you know what made it all worthwhile?
This girl is so proud of her rockets |
This big, ole smile :) She loved them! Falling down and all, she could not have been happier. And that kind of happiness trumps mommy failure any day of the week.

i laughed out loud during this whole post. you are a great mom, even if your rockets didn't exactly take off, the fact that you tried and made her happy is all that matters. so funny. (bc I would be in the same boat)
I think you're pretty awesome for being brave enough to attempt them! I can't be sure I would! I think they turned out cute!
